This can have the impact of reducing resolution in the lighter shades. In the first three approaches, the density of dots decreases as the image gets lighter. The goal is to more accurately mimic the effect of an aquatint screen. I describe this approach in my earlier post. One can also eliminate any print-time processing by using a driver like GutenPrint. One can reduce this effect somewhat by choosing bitmap resolutions that are power-or-2 factors of the printer’s resolution. In practice, it can generate a lower quality dither on the plate because the dithered image from Photoshop may get dithered again in the printer driver or RIP. Conceptually this is similar to the algorithm in the printer driver and the RIP. In this approach, a grayscale image is converted to a bitmap using Photoshop’s diffusion dither. I’ve also found that the Epson driver seems to generate a smoother dither. The downside of this approach is that it involves a lot of experimentation to get the RIP configured correctly. One can use a 3rd party RIP like QuadToneRip to generate a maximum resolution dither pattern. This can lead to a grainy image in the matrix. Some printers like the Epson 3880 limit black-only mode to lower resolutions. If your printer driver has a black-only mode, this is one of the best approaches because the dither can be accomplished at any of the printer’s native resolutions. I really believe you need to start a new thread Mr. I would like to do all this measuring work with free Measuretool application not Argyll as I have enough command line as it is. (how to make) Print linearization charts, then load data to gutenprint. I don't know how to print ink limit charts (how to make them), set ink limit. For the ease of it the linux way is very simple to install everything no command line is needed. The recent gutenprint version that if no problem installed on linux mint works with my canon very good. I would like to test this gutenprint on my 6700D Canon, as I do not have any Epson for testing. There are few threads about this on russian forums like these, have you read them? My goal it to understand the proper way to do ink limiting and linearization. The spooler for wutenprint is very different "this is noted on the site", wutenprint installed without any problems.
